Ryan Dorosh pitched a complete-game shutout on the mound and struck out 14 batters to lead the Misericordia University baseball team to a 4-0 victory over FDU-Florham in the loser's bracket of the Freedom Conference Championships at Memorial Field in Quakertown, PA.
 
Dorosh allowed just five hits on the mound in the victory while Ryan Cacchioli went 3-3 on the day to lead the Cougar offense. Kyle Lindsay and Steve Sulcoski each added two hits for MU while Dylan Mazzo came up with a big pinch hit, two-RBI double to break in the eighth inning to break the game open.
 
Frank LaGuarina led FDU-Florham with two hits on the day while AJ Pichalski started and took the loss on the mound, allowing eight hits and two runs with five strikeouts in seven innings of action.
 
After each team had a lone single in the top of the first, Dorosh retired the side in the top of the second with a pair of strikeouts. The Cougars took advantage, as Julian Faria hit a leadoff double and later scored from third on a Mike Impellittiere RBI-single through the left side to give MU a 1-0 lead.
 
Dorosh continued to work on the mound, striking out two in the third, fourth and fifth and the entire side in the top of the seventh to keep the Cougars on top through six-and-a-half innings.
 
MU finally took advantage, with small ball in the bottom of the seventh. After a Lindsay single through the right side, Andrew Tressa drew a full-count walk. A double steal moved the runners to second and third, and a Sulcoski sacrifice fly was enough to extend the Cougar lead to 2-0.
 
John Bowe led off the top of the eight with a single for the Devils, but Nick Amerosi lined into a double play to clear the threat, allowing Dorosh to end the inning with his 13^th strikeout of the game.
 
The Cougars added some insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, as Cacchioli led off with a blooper single to shallow right field and advanced to third on a hit-and-run single by Tagliarini, setting up Mazzo's pinch hit double to the left field wall that gave the Cougars a 4-0 lead.
 
Dorosh worked for his final strikeout on the leadoff batter, and after a LaGuarina single, closed the game with a pair of flyouts.
 
FDU-Florham finishes their season at 16-23.
 
With the win, MU advances to the loser's bracket final tonight at 7:00 PM. The Cougars will face the loser of the 3:00 game between DeSales and Manhattanville.
