Box Score The Misericordia University field hockey opened its Freedom Conference schedule with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to FDU-Florham, Monday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Lindsay Hischak scored both goals for the Cougars and
Angela Pasquini made 12 saves in goal.
Hischak's second goal gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead 10 minutes into the second half, but the Devils tied it a minute later and scored the game-winner with two minutes to play.
The Cougars had a solid scoring chance midway through the first half when Hischak centered a pass from the right side but a charging
Hannah Harvey couldn't get a stick on it near the left post.
FDU-Florham countered to take a 1-0 lead just over a minute later.
MU had a chance to tie it at 13:15 by Devils goalie Tess Loughran made the stop on
Andi Veneziale's penalty stroke.
Misericordia finally got on the board late in the half when Jenn O'Neill carried the ball down the left sideline and centered to Hischak who dribbled in and beat Loughran one-on-one with 5:14 to go.
The Devils threatened off a corner early in the second half, but
Emily Hegner cleared a loose ball from in front of the cage.
Hischak put the Cougars ahead when she collected the ball from a scrum in front of the cage and poked home a goal with 25:20 to play.
FDU tied on a rebound goal a minute later and a chance to take the lead with 12:30 remaining but Pasquini made a diving clear to thwart a two-on-one break.
FDU-Florham tallied the game-winner on a rebound goal with just over two minutes to play.
