9/17/2013 9:15:00 PM

Box Score In a hard fought and physical game Tuesday night, the Misericordia University men's soccer team fell to the visiting University of Scranton, 1-0.

The game had more fouls (18) than combined shots on goal (9) and drops the Cougars to 4-2-0 overall. The win moves the Royals to 4-0-2 on the young season.

The lone goal came from Royals leading scorer Bill McGuiness late in the 54th minute. McGuiness looked as if he was going to pull the ball back outside, but immediately turned and fired a shot just past Cougar keeper Barry Fitzgerald. McGuiness now has 12 points in 2013.

Fitzgerald finished the night with six saves.

The Cougars best chances to score came in the waning minutes when Chris Panagacos had a decent look off a pass from Nick Ferguson, but his shot went just wide in the 89th minute.

As time dropped under 10 seconds, the Cougars had a free kick from the 30-yard line. A good ball was sent into the center of the field, but Misericordia was unable to get a clean look as time expired.

Misericordia is back at home on Saturday against Elizabethtown at 3:30.
