Box Score Chris Edkins had a goal and assist to lead the Misericordia University men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Lebanon Valley, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
George Stock added a goal and
David Malaquias had an assist for the Cougars.
Shortly after Stock and Malaquias entered the game late in the first half, they combined with Edkins to put the Cougars on the board.
Malaquias played a ball from the right side to Edkins who rolled it across the top of the box to Stock who slotted it inside the left post for a 1-0 lead at 35:22.
Edkins added an insurance goal early in the second half and the MU defense made it stand up the rest of the way.
Nick vonEgypt ripped a shot from 20 yards out and Lebanon Valley keeper James Clements made a diving save with the rebound rolling to Edkins who buried it in the open net for a 2-0 MU advantage just minutes into the second half.
The Dutchmen had a solid scoring chance with at the 70:00 mark when Kevin Doty's direct kick from 35 yards away was punched away by Fitzgerald near the left post.
The Cougars threatened early in the first half on a re-start when
Chris Panagacos collected
David Stoner's serve in front of the net, but Clements made a point-blank save.
Nick Ferguson's shot off a re-start sailed over the bar at 20:00 and Stoner played a ball over the ball to a streaking
Trey Ziegler five minutes later, but Clements came off his line to win the ball in the air.
Fitzgerald came well off his own line to win a loose ball in the box in the 43rd minute and the Dutchmen rolled a shot wide left as time expired in the first half.
Fitzgerald made two saves in goal as the Cougars improved to 6-2.
MU will travel to Messiah, Saturday night.
