Box Score Despite two touchdowns by
Michael Cheslock, the Misericordia University football team lost at Lebanon Valley, 44-16, Saturday afternoon.
Cheslock punched in a three-yard scoring run to open the second quarter and broke a 67-yard scamper in the fourth quarter.
Trailing just 14-9 early in the second quarter Cougars allowed 17 unanswered points to fall behind 31-17 at halftime.
The Dutchmen added a touchdown in the third and fourth quarters to take a 44-9 lead before Cheslock's long scoring run.
Lebanon Valley recovered an MU fumble on the opening kickoff and went 33 yards in seven plays to take a 7-0 lead.
The Cougars were forced to punt on the ensuing drive, but
Brandon Salazar recovered a Lebanon Valley fumble on the kick and the Cougars took over at the Dutchmen's 36.
Jeff Puckett hit
Alec Rhoads on first down to the Lebanon Valley 15 yard line.
The drive stalled at the five and
Patrick Newins connected on a 26-yard field goal to make it 7-3 midway through the first quarter.
Lebanon Valley used a 42-yard scoring pass on its next possession to go ahead 14-3 with 3:34 remaining in the opening stanza.
Puckett hit
Tyler Rowe and Tom Stelzer for first downs to move the Cougars to midfield.
Puckett picked up nine yards to convert a third down and gained 14 yards on two carries to move to the Lebanon Valley 22.
Another nine-yard run by Puckett set up first and goal inside the 10 and Cheslock scored from three yards out on the first play of the second quarter to pull within 14-9.
Lebanon Valley responded with a field goal on its next possession and added two TD's in the final seven minutes of the half for a 31-9 lead.
After MU forced a punt on the opening drive of the second half, the Cougars were forced to punt and Newins' kick pinned the Dutchmen at their own one yard line.
Lebanon Valley marched the length of the field in 10 plays to stretch the lead to 37-9 midway through the third period.
The teams exchanged punts to close the third quarter and the Dutchmen finished off a long drive to start the fourth and take a 44-9 lead.
Following an LVC punt with 5:55 to play, Cheslock took the first play from scrimmage 67 yards to end the scoring.
Cheslock led the Cougars with 83 yards on four carries while Puckett had 65 yards on 15 carries.
Rob Hart led the defense with 11 stops while Salazar had 10 tackles.
Misericordia will be off next week before visiting Delaware Valley, October 25.
