Box Score Lindsay Hischak scored three goals to lead the Misericordia University field hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Freedom Conference foe, DeSales University, on Senior Appreciation Day at Mangelsdorf Field.
Hannah Harvey added a goal and an assist while
Colby Eldridge and
Melanie Fry each had an assist to help MU hand DeSales its first conference loss of the season.
Hischak got things started, deflecting a
Colby Eldridge shot from the top of the circle into the cage just 23 seconds into the game.
MU would hold a 1-0 advantage for the rest of the first half, but the Bulldogs knotted the game at 1-1 just four minutes into the second half on a goal from Meryah Harding.
The two teams battled for the next 12 minutes, but it would be the Cougars' offense that would awake at the 53 minute mark of the game when
Hannah Harvey finished a perfect centering pass from
Melanie Fry to give MU a 2-1 lead.
Hischak then found the cage for a second time after
Hannah Harvey's shot from atop the key deflected off the DeSales goalie and Hischak sent the loose ball right into the cage to give the Cougars a huge insurance goal at the 55:08 mark.
She then put the game out of the Bulldogs' reach with her third and final goal - a blistering shot from just inside the circle that beat the keeper to make it a 4-1 game with less than 10 minutes to play.
Angela Pasquini picked up six saves and the win in the cage for the Cougars.
With the victory MU improves to 9-6 overall and 3-1 in the Freedom Conference while DeSales falls to 9-6 and 3-1 in the conference.
The Cougars return to action Wednesday night for another Freedom Conference showdown at King's College at 7:00.
