Box Score The 15
th-ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team did as all good teams do when finding themselves in a tight game – they found a way to win.
Meghan Antrim entered the game with just 15 minutes left and the score locked at 1-1. She proved to be the difference maker, finding the back of the net off of a cross from
Kylen Smith with less than two minutes left in the game to give the Cougars a 2-1 victory over Freedom Conference rival, Wilkes University, on Tuesday night.
Erin McGreal had the Cougars' first goal of the game, finishing a cross from
Devin Simpson in the 17
th minute.
Wilkes then tied the game in the 60
th minute on a Kaitlyn Fedor header that hit the crossbar and went in.
MU had all the momentum late in the game, creating numerous chances in the game's final 30 minutes.
Alex Gallagher had the first chance for the Cougars, but her shot was blocked with 22 minutes left.
Gallagher then had a great chance from just inside the box, but Wilkes keeper, Lisa Semetti, dove out to her left to get a piece of the blistering shot and keep the score knotted at 1-1.
Antrim then had a chance to give the Cougars the lead with eight minutes left, but her header went high.
Emily Szeflinski then found the back of the net off of a feed across the front of the goal from
Kailee Crockett, but the play was ruled offside to keep the game tied with just over six minutes left.
Maureen Ciccosanti then added a fantastic diving save of her own with just two minutes left and 30 seconds later Antrim gave the Cougars the 2-1 lead and eventually the win, controlling a pass from Smith and hammering it by Semetti with just 1:29 left in the game.
MU had a commanding 22-6 advantage in shots and a 7-0 advantage in corners in the victory.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 13-2 and 5-0 in the Freedom Conference. Wilkes falls to 8-8 and 1-4 in the Freedom.
The Cougars continue Freedom Conference play Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field against FDU-Florham at 3:00.
