MU Field Hockey Opens ECAC's at Alvernia

The Misericordia University field hockey team will have an opportunity to play for a championship when the Cougars visit Alvernia in the opening round of the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championships, Wednesday at 5:00.

Misericordia (13-8), the Freedom Conference runner-up, is seeded eighth while Alvernia (13-8) is the top seed after falling in the Commonwealth Conference title game.

Alvernia scored in the first minute of overtime to beat Misericordia, 2-1, in the fourth game of the season.

Misericordia is led by junior goalkeeper Angela Pasquini, the two-time Freedom Conference Defensive Player of the Year.  She has two shutouts with a 1.81 goals against average and a 77.1 save percentage.
 
The MU scoring attack is led by three players with more than 40 points who now rank fifth, sixth and seventh in single-season points in school history.
 
Colby Eldridge (17g, 10a) has 44 points while Lindsay Hischak (15g, 13a) and Jennifer O'Neill (19g, 4a) add 43 and 42 points, respectively.
 
Hischak is now fourth in single-season assists and has moved into the career top 10 in goals, assists and points.
 
O'Neill is tied for third in single-season goals and needs one more to move into a tie for second.
 
Alvernia's Erin Wunsch is 12-8 in goal with four shutouts and a 77.3 save percentage while allowing 1.88 goals per game.
 
Margaret Wentzel (22g, 8a) leads the Crusaders in scoring with 52 points.  Natalie Messaros (8g, 7a) and Summer Liberto (7g, 6a) add 23 and 20 points, respectively.
 
The Alvernia/Misericordia winner will face the Kean (4)/Arcadia (5) winner in Saturday's semifinals.
