O'Neill's Four Goals Send MU to Freedom Finals

Box Score Jennifer O'Neill scored four goals to lead the Misericordia University field hockey team to a 5-0 win over DeSales in a Freedom Conference semifinal, Tuesday evening at Mangelsdorf Field.

Lindsay Hischak added a goal and two assists and Hannah Harvey had two assists as the Cougars advanced to the Freedom championship game for the second straight season.

Angela Pasquini made nine saves in goal to record the shutout.

Misericordia, 13-7, will face the winner of FDU-Florham/Wilkes on Saturday.

DeSales had two shots in the opening two minutes with Pasquini making saves on both.

O'Neill answered with a pair goals in just over a minute to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.

Off a corner by Emily Hegner, Harvey sent a cross from the left side of the circle and O'Neill finished it at the right post at 4:14.

O'Neill made it 2-0 at 5:35 when she swatted a pass out of the air from Hischak.

The Bulldogs had a chance to cut into MU's lead late in the first half when Alexa Beaumont sent a ball across the goal mouth, but it was just out of reach of a charging teammate.

Danika Watto had a shot off a corner with less than five minutes remaining in the half, but it was deflected wide left and the Cougars took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Hischak dribbled along the end line from the right flank and served to O'Neill in front who finished the hat trick for a 3-0 lead at 37:08.

Harvey ripped a shot from the left side of the circle off a corner and Hischak tipped over the Bulldogs' goalie to stretch the lead to 4-0 at 43:48.

The Cougars closed out the scoring six minutes later when Melanie Fry served a ball into the circle and O'Neill slammed it home.
