The #13 Misericordia University women's soccer team will make its fourth consecutive appearance in the Freedom Conference championship match, Saturday at 1:00 at DeSales with an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships at stake.
Misericordia, 16-2-1, is unbeaten in its last 11 matches with the only blemish a 2-2 at DeSales, 10-5-4, eight days ago.
MU, the number-two team in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic region, advanced to the finals with a 6-0 win over Delaware Valley while DeSales edged King's, 1-0.
The Cougars of Freedom Coach of the Year
Mark Stauffer, are the two-time defending Freedom champions and have made three consecutive appearances in the NCAA's, including a trip to the Sweet 16 a year ago and a Final Fourth berth in 2012.
This year's roster features two-time Freedom Offensive Player of the Year
Megan Mahoney and two-time Freedom Defensive Player of the Year
Erin Roberts among 10 all-conference players.
Mahoney (16g, 12a) scored both goals in the regular season finale at DeSales and leads the Freedom in scoring with 44 points.
Roberts (0g, 1a) anchors a defense that allows just 5.3 shots and 0.46 goals per game.
Other Misericordia first-team All-Freedom selections include
Meghan Antrim (17g, 1a), the Freedom's second-leading scorer,
Erin McGreal (6g, 7a),
Kylen Smith (0g, 9a) and junior goalkeeper
Maureen Ciccosanti (0.48 GAA, 83.0% save pct., 6 shutouts).
Amber Hartranft (6g, 3a) was named second-team All-Freedom along with backs
Alexa Alchevsky,
Kristen Ritter and
Devin Simpson.
DeSales' Brady Walsh (16g, 3a) is tied for second in the Freedom in scoring with 35 points and was named first-team All-Freedom.
DSU's Jess Wetherhold and Rachel Logue also earned first-team honors while goalkeeper Michelle Churchman was second-team and Esther Younger received honorable mention.
