Box Score 2 The Misericordia University baseball team took a doubleheader at Manhattanville, Saturday, to finish a three-game sweep of the Valiants.
MU won the opener, 12-9, and took the nightcap, 16-4.
Chris Boroch paced the offense in the opener with three hits and two RBI while
Kyle Lindsay,
Mike Comerford,
Joe Tagliarini and
Miles Westrich all drove in two runs.
Jim Tunison earned the win in relief while
Corey Lee earned his third save.
The Cougars jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, but Manhattanville responded with seven runs in the bottom of the second.
Boroch led off the game with a single and eventually scored after three consecutive walks.
Westrich drove in a pair of runs with a single to right center and
Nick Hair made it 4-0 with a single to left field.
MU went back in front with a five-run third inning.
Ryan Cacchioli reached via hit by pitch with one out and scored on
Al Reda's double to left center.
Boroch singled to drive in Reda and
Jeremy DeCotiis doubled to put runners at second and third and both runners came home on Lindsay's ground out.
Comerford drew a walk, stole second and scored on Tagliarini's single to make it 9-7.
After Manhattanville tied it with a pair of runs in the third, Misericordia went ahead for good in the top of the fourth.
Hair and Cacchioli drew back-to-back walks and Boroch's two-out single put MU up, 10-9.
The Cougars added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth when Lindsay was hit by a pitch and Comerford drilled a two-run homer to make it 12-9.
In the nightcap, Lindsay and Comerford both had three hits and three RBI and Westrich added two hits and drove in four runs.
Max German had two hits and
Steve Cuccio drove in a pair.
Dan Kliesh struck out five and scattered nine hits to earn the complete game victory.
The Cougars struck for four runs in the top of the first again and put the game away with an 8-run sixth inning.
DeCotiis was hit by a pitch with one out in the first inning and raced to third on Lindsay's opposite field single.
After Lindsay swiped second, Comerford doubled to right to put MU in front 2-0.
Westrich singled up the middle to drive in a run and moved to third on Hair's double before coming home on a wild pitch.
The Cougars added four more in the fifth thanks to an RBI-single from Lindsay and Comerford's RBI-double.
Leading 8-2, the Cougars scored eight runs on eight hits in the sixth inning.
Lindsay had a two-run double and Westrich blasted a three-run homer while Cuccio had a two-run pinch-hit homer.
Misericordia is 7-4 overall and 3-0 in the Freedom Conference and will play a doubleheader at DeSales, Sunday.
