Box Score 2 The Misericordia University softball team came within three outs of a sweep at Moravian before settling for a split.
MU took the opener, 10-2, in five innings and dropped the nightcap, 4-3, on a walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh.
Megan Gowe had two hits and three RBI in the opener.
Melissa Parker added two hits and
Megan Hardy drilled a three-run homer.
Bailee Schies worked four innings to earn the win on the mound.
Gowe added two hits in the nightcap.
Trailing 2-1 in the opener, MU scored five in the fourth and four in the fifth.
In the top of the fourth, Parker reached via hit by pitch and Samantha Hare was safe on a fielder's choice. Â
Melanie Quintanilla singled through the left side to tie it and
Whitney Ellenberg singled to put MU ahead. Hardy's three-run homer to left made it 6-2.
Andi Veneziale reached via hit by pitch to lead off the fifth and came home on Parker's double to right center. Samantha Hare singled to left and Quintanilla reached on an error to load bases. Gowe tripled down right field line to clear the bases and give the Cougars a 10-2 lead.
In game two, Moravian took a 2-0 in the second and the Cougars tied it with a pair of runs in the top of the third.
Ellenberg doubled with one out and moved to third on Gowe's single.Â
Kristi Seiler drove in a run with a single and Gowe came around on error to tie it.
Misericordia took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth when Hardy drew a lead off walk and pinch-runner
Cailey Ware moved to third on Veneziale's single to right.
Parker put MU ahead with an RBI-single to right.
Moravian rallied for the win with a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh.
