Box Score Sophomore pitcher
Ryan Dorosh dominated DeSales, leading the Cougars to a 5-1 victory over the Bulldogs in the Cougar's home opener at Tambur Field, Thursday afternoon.
The 6-foot-2 right-hander tossed a complete game, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out nine and improving to 4-0 on the season.
The win put the Cougars back on track after two heartbreaking walk-off losses at DeSales on Sunday.
Max German continued to swing a hot bat for the Cougars, driving in three runs while
Kyle Seawards and
Nick Hair had two hits each for MU.
MU didn't waste any time jumping out to an early 2-0 lead on a German two-RBI single right back up the middle past a diving Drew Borger.
DeSales picked up its only run of the game when Carrington Santana scored from third after the Cougars couldn't cleanly field a ground ball to first base. However, Dorosh got out of the two on, two-out jam by getting Alec Hardy to bounce into an inning-ending double play and the Cougars took a 2-1 lead into the home half of the sixth.
MU took a 3-1 lead on play that DeSales used in one of their walk off wins Sunday afternoon. Seawards tripled over the centerfielder's head and then scored on a perfect bunt just a few feet down the third base line off the bat of
Jeremy DeCotiis. German followed with a sacrifice fly to shallow centerfield with the bases loaded and one out, allowing DeCotiis to score from third just ahead of the throw.
Seawards completed the scoring for the Cougars with an RBI single in the home half of the eighth and Dorosh worked a perfect top of the ninth, securing the 5-1 victory for the Cougars.
With the win, Misericordia improves to 8-6 overall and 4-2 in the Freedom Conference while DeSales falls to 6-8 overall and 5-0 in the conference.
MU travels to Eastern on Friday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 3:30. The Cougars then return home to wrap up a three-game series with Eastern with a doubleheader, Saturday afternoon at 12:00.
