Box Score The Misericordia University baseball team used timely hitting and solid pitching en route to a 5-2 victory over Eastern, Saturday afternoon at Tambur Field.
The Cougars and Eagles were scheduled for a doubleheader, but Mother Nature had other plans when the rain started to come down in the sixth inning of the first game.
Mike Comerford had a big day at the plate for MU, going 3-3 while driving in two runs.
Kyle Seawards and
Kyle Lindsay also added two hits for the Cougars while
Julian Faria chipped in with an RBI single.
The Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second when Comerford roped his first RBI single of the day and MU picked up its second run when Comerford scored on an Eastern throwing error.
MU added two more in the third, extending its lead to 4-0 on an RBI double off the bat of Comerford and an RBI single by Faria. Lindsay added an RBI double of his own in the fourth capping the scoring for the Cougars.
Eastern fought back getting two runs back on an Andrew Check RBI single and an RBI double by Eric Rossi. However,
Jim Tunison came in and got a huge strikeout and leaving the bases loaded for Eastern.
Tim Burek picked up the win for the Cougars, allowing just two runs in 5.2 innings on the bump.
Corey Lee worked a perfect top half of the seventh earning the save for MU.
The Cougars travel to Eastern tomorrow, first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
