Box Score 2 The Misericordia University Softball team evened its record to 11-11 after dominant pitching and timely hitting helped the Cougars to a doubleheader sweep over Lycoming College, Thursday afternoon at Anderson Field.
Bailee Schies,
Alissa Steier and
Jess Armillay combined to throw 12 scoreless innings leading MU to a 1-0 victory in game one and an 8-0 victory in five innings in the nightcap.
Schies allowed just three hits while striking out three and Armillay struck out three en route to the victory in game two.
The Cougars lone run of the game came on a
Melanie Quintanilla RBI single down the left field line, which allowed
Sam Hare to score from second. The Quintanilla RBI single was all the Cougars would need in the first game.
Andi Veneziale and
Megan Hardy had the other two hits for MU in the opening game.
The MU offense erupted and Armillay was magnificent in the circle in game two. Quintanilla once again put the Cougars on the board with an RBI single and later scored on a triple to the right field wall by
Megan Gowe.
Megan Hardy then crushed her sixth home run of the season way over the left-centerfield fence and gave the Cougars a 4-0 lead after two innings of play.
The Cougars picked up two more in the third when the Lycoming outfield couldn't come up with the catch on a Quintanilla fly ball.
Kristina Mandala and Hardy added RBI singles in the fifth, securing the 8-0 victory after just five innings of play.
Gowe, Hardy and Seiler all had two hits while Quintanilla, Mandella, Veneziale,
Sam Hare,
Mackenzie Yurko and
Cailey Ware chipped in with a hit in the win.
MU is back in action Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader with Delaware Valley. First pitch from Anderson Field is slated for 1:00 p.m.
