Box Score 2 The Misericordia University used a combination of stellar pitching and fielding en route to a doubleheader sweep over Freedom Conference foe, King's College on Saturday afternoon at Tambur Field.
Ryan Dorosh retired 16 consecutive batters over the final five-plus innings in game one to improve to improve to 7-0. He struck out eight while allowing just one hit and one walk.
Nick Hair had three of MU's six hits and
Miles Westrich and
Mike Comerford both had doubles.
Tom Gibbons had the lone hit for the Monarchs with two outs in the second inning. Shawn Heck was the tough-luck loser as he scattered six hits over six innings.
In the opener, Misericordia took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on back-to-back line drive singles to center field by Hair and
Kyle Lindsay. Hair raced all the way around to score when Lindsay's sinking line drive got past a diving attempt by the King's centerfielder.
The Cougars added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth. After lining a double into the left field corner, Comerford moved to third on a wild pitch and came around to score on an errant throw.
Tim Burek picked up the win tossing six innings without allowing an earned run while striking out four.
Corey Lee picked up the save with a perfect seventh.
Kyle Lindsay led the Cougars in game two going 3-3 while driving in a pair of runs.
Steve Cuccio drove in the other run while
Nick Hair,
Jeremy DeCotiis,
Chris Boroch and Comerford had the other hits for MU.
The Cougars travel to King's College on Monday afternoon to conclude a three-game series with the Monarchs. First pitch from Wilkes-Barre, PA is slated for 3:30 p.m.
