Offense Explodes in DH Sweep over PSU-Abington

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Misericordia University softball team continued its dominance at Anderson Field on Monday Afternoon with a doubleheader sweep over PSU-Abington.
 
The Cougars won the opener 8-0 and completed the sweep with a 9-3 victory in the finale. With the win MU improves to 17-13 on the year, including an 11-1 mark at Anderson Field.
 
Kristi Seiler led the Cougars in the first game, going 3-3 while driving in a run and scoring twice. Megan Gowe and Cailey Ware drove in two runs each and Megan Hardy added a double en route to the 8-0 victory in the opener.
 
Bailee Schies picked up the win in the circle allowing just two hits over four scoreless innings. Alissa Steier tossed a scoreless fifth, securing the win.
 
Seiler sent a screamer through the left side of the infield allowing Hardy to score to give MU a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Gowe then added a two-RBI single to center in the second and Ware followed with a two RBI single in the third. Ware and Andi Veneziale scored on wild pitches later in the inning and Seiler scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to give MU an 8-0 lead and eventually the win in five innings.
 
The Cougars fell to an early 2-0 deficit after PSU-Abington picked up two runs in the top half of the second. However, just as quickly as the Nittany Lions took the lead, they lost it.
 
MU answered with a two-run second on the heels of an RBI double to right center off the bat of Bronwyn Perrins and a single to right by Diana Kestenbaum.
 
The Cougars weren't done there as they exploded for a four-run third inning to take a 6-2 lead into the fourth inning. Melissa Parker ripped a ground rule double, Mackenzie Yurko sent a sacrifice fly to center and Perrins chipped in with an RBI infield single.
 
Hardy continued to swing a hot bat crushing her ninth home run of the season over the right field wall. Hardy's two-run blast, along an RBI single by Yurko gave the Cougars a 9-2 advantage heading into the fifth inning.
 
PSU-Abington picked up a run on a solo shot in the sixth, but it was too little too late as the Cougars completed the sweep with a 9-3 victory over the Nittany Lions.
 
Yurko led the Cougars going 3-3 with two RBI while Hardy, Parker, and Perrins also drove in a pair for MU. Gowe added two hits in the victory.
 
Jess Armillay earned the win in the circle allowing just two runs on two hits while striking out three over four innings. Alissa Steier tossed the final three innings allowing just one run on two hits while striking out six.
 
The Cougars are back in action tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader with Muhlenberg beginning at 3:00 p.m.
