MU Baseball Falls at Rutgers-Newark

Box Score The Misericordia University baseball team dropped a non-conference game at Rutgers-Newark, 7-5, Tuesday.

Kyle Seawards led the Cougars with a three-run double and Steve Cuccio and Al Reda both added doubles.

Cory Vogeli worked 2.2 innings of scoreless relief for the Cougars.

The Cougars took a 1-0 lead without the benefit of a hit in the top of the first.  Chris Boroch drew a lead-off walk, moved to second on a wild pitch before stealing third and coming around to score on an error on the play.

After Rutgers-Newark took a 3-1 lead in the second, MU regained the lead in the top of the third.

Jeremy DeCotiis walked and moved to second when Boroch reached on an error.  After Kyle Lindsay walked to load the bases, Seawards cleared them with a double to center field to give MU a 4-3 lead.

Rutgers-Newark tied it in the fourth and went ahead for good with three runs in the fifth.

Misericordia added a run in the sixth when Al Reda doubled and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

MU will host Wilkes in the opener of a three-game Freedom Conference series, Friday at Tambur Field.
