Box Score 2 The Misericordia University softball swept a doubleheader with regionally ranked Muhlenberg College on Thursday afternoon at Anderson Field.
The Cougars picked up a 3-0 victory on the heels of a complete game shutout from
Bailee Schies and earned a 12-11 walk-off victory when
Mackenzie Yurko drew a bases loaded walk in the second game.
Kristi Seiler,
Megan Hardy,
Diana Kestenbaum and
Andi Veneziale all went 2-3 and drove in a run in the opener. Seiler had an RBI double down the right field line while Hardy and Veneziale hit towering homers.
Hardy's homer in the home half of the fifth put her just one home run shy of tying the all-time record for home runs in a single season at MU.
Schies was dominant on the mound tossing a complete game shutout while striking out eight and working nine groundouts.
The Cougars fell to an early 8-0 deficit in the finale, but rallied to score four runs in the second, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and a huge five-run home half of the seventh to sneak away with a 12-11 victory.
Kestenbaum led the Cougars with four hits while
Melanie Quintanilla,
Megan Gowe,
Sam Hare, Seiler and Veneziale all had three hits in the win over the Mules.
Melissa Parker, Seiler, Hare, and Veneziale all drove in a pair with Veneziale hitting her second home run of the day in the second inning.
The Cougars went into the seventh inning trailing 11-7, but Parker sparked a rally with a two-run single up the middle to cut the deficit to 11-9.
Seiler then followed with a rocket to right-centerfield and Hare added a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 11-11.
Yurko then drew the game-winning walk with two outs and the bases loaded in the home half of the seventh.
Alissa Steier picked up the win tossing six innings of relief. She allowed just one earned run and struck out seven.
With the win the Cougars improve to 19-13 while the Mules fell to 23-9.
The Cougars conclude their regular season with an important doubleheader against Wilkes University at Anderson Field on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
