Comerford Leads Cougars to Sweep of Wilkes

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Misericordia University baseball team took both ends of a doubleheader to wrap-up its Freedom Conference schedule with a three-game sweep of Wilkes, Saturday.

The Cougars took the opener, 7-2, and won the nightcap, 12-4, to improve to 23-12-1 overall and tied for first in the Freedom Conference at 17-4.

Mike Comerford paced the offense in the opener with four hits and three RBI and Kyle Seawards drove in three runs.

Nick Hair had two hits and scored two runs to make a winner of Tim Burek who allowed just four hits and one earned run over six innings.

Down 2-1 after two innings, the Cougars took the lead with two runs in the top of the second and put the game away with three runs in the fourth.

Kyle Lindsay led off the third with a solo homer to left center to tie the score and Comerford singled and eventually came around to score to give MU a 3-2 lead.

With two outs in the fourth, Hair singled up the middle and Lindsay was hit by a pitch before Comerford blasted a two-run triple to center.

Seawards followed with an RBI-single up the middle to make it 6-2.

In the nightcap, Max German and Miles Westrich both had two doubles to combine for five RBI.

Kyle Lindsay added a two-run double.

Corey Lee struck out five while scattering five hits over six innings to earn the win.

The Cougars in every inning except the fifth and broke the game open with a five-run sixth.

MU took a 1-0 lead in the first when Chris Boroch walked and scored on German's two-single through the right side.

Westrich doubled with one out in the second and scored on Ben Ciraolo's single up the middle.

German and Seawards sandwiched doubles around a single by Comerford in a two-run third inning and Lindsay's two-run double in the fourth gave the Cougars a 6-1 lead.

German's RBI-double and Westrich's three-run double highlighted a five-run sixth to stretch the lead to 11-1.

Misericordia will host Wesley, Sunday at 2:00 at Tambur Field.
