4/27/2014 5:30:00 PM

Box Score The Misericordia University baseball team overcame an early deficit to defeat Wesley College 13-10 on Senior Appreciation Day at Tambur Field on Sunday afternoon.

Wesley jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but Jeremy DeCotiis put the Cougars on the board in the home half of the second with an RBI single right back up the middle, allowing Al Reda to score. The Wolverines responded with a run of their own in the top half of the third to extend their lead to 5-1.

The Cougars came all the way back to tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the third. Max German and Bryce Frankenfield started the rally with back-to-back RBI singles while DeCotiis followed with a two-run double down the right field line.

Mike Comerford then gave the Cougars an 8-5 lead with a three-run blast over the right field wall in the bottom of the fourth.

The Wolverines responded with two runs in the fifth, tightening the Cougar's lead to just 8-7. However, the Cougars added three more in the home half of the sixth. German started the rally with a two-run double to centerfield while Al Reda hit a puzzling fly ball that dropped in just a few feet in front of the plate when Wesley's pitcher and catcher collided near the plate, allowing another run to score.

The Wolverines refused to go away picking up two more in the eighth to bring the MU lead to 11-9.

Ryan Cacchioli then placed a perfect bunt down the first base line, allowing German to score from third. The Cougars picked up their final run in the eighth when the Wolverines couldn't come up with Reda's fly ball to left field. The Cougar's ability to capitalize on Wesley's fielding blunders gave them a 13-9 lead heading into the ninth.

Wesley added one more run in the eighth, but it was too little too late as the Cougars emerged with a 13-10 victory.

Senior Shane McGraw picked up the win, tossing five innings while Cory Vogeli picked up the save with four innings of relief.

With the win MU improves to 25-12-1 while the Wolverines fell to 17-17. The Cougars return to action Monday for their regular season finale against the University of Scranton. First pitch from Tambur Field is slated for 4:00 p.m.
