Box Score The Misericordia University baseball team concluded its regular season with a 15-8 victory over the University of Scranton on Monday afternoon at Tambur Field.
Mike Comerford led the Cougars, going 4-4 while driving in eight runs, including a three-run homer, two doubles and a triple.
Miles Westrich finished the day with three RBI and
Kyle Lindsay was 5-6 on the day.
Nick Hair chipped in with three hits and
Chris Boroch added two.
The Cougars fell to an early 2-0 deficit, but quickly captured a 3-2 lead in the home half of the first. Lindsay roped an RBI single up the middle and Comerford added a two-run double.
MU's offense exploded for five more runs in the third when Comerford cleared the bases with a three-run triple, Westrich doubled to right and Boroch added an RBI single through the left side to give the Cougars an 8-2 advantage.
The offense continued to produce, scoring three more in both the fourth and fifth inning. Seawards drew a bases loaded walk, Westrich had an RBI groundout and
Jeremy DeCotiis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Comerford then crushed his second three-run homer in as many days to give the Cougars a 14-2 advantage.
Scranton clawed its way back into the game with four runs in the sixth and two in the seventh, but Westrich solidified the 15-8 victory with a sacrifice fly in the home half of the seventh.
Dan Kliesh picked up the win for the Cougars allowing just one run in three innings and striking out two.
Anthony LoBello and
Dillon DelRosso each tossed a scoreless inning in relief.
With the win MU improves to 25-12-1 while Scranton falls to 17-17. The Cougars are back in action Friday night at 7:30 in West Lawn, PA for the opening round of the Freedom Conference Championships.
