Box Score 2 The Misericordia University baseball team split a doubleheader with FDU-Florham, Saturday afternoon at Tambur Field. The Cougars took game one 7-3, but dropped the finale 4-0.
Julian Faria led the Cougars offensively with three RBI, including a two-RBI double to the base of the 390 sign in straightaway centerfield, helping MU take a 3-1 lead in the home half of the fourth.
Kyle Seawards led the Cougars with three hits in game one while
Chris Boroch added two RBI.
Ryan Dorosh was terrific on the bump yet again for the Cougars. The reigning Freedom Conference Pitcher of the Week tossed a complete game (seven innings), allowing three runs while striking out nine en route to his fifth win of the season.
Despite ultimately losing the game, the Devils did strike first in the top half of the first on an RBI single down the left field line by Frank LaGuarina. However, the Cougars came back taking the 3-1 lead on Faria's RBI double to center that nearly left the park and Boroch's RBI single right back up the middle.
The MU offense exploded for four runs in the home half of the sixth.
Miles Westrich got things started with a rocket line drive double to the right-centerfield gap,
Kyle Seawards followed with a single to right and
Nick Hair drew a walk to load the bases. Boroch then got hit by a pitch, forcing Westrich in from third.
Jeremy DeCotiis followed with a sacrifice fly to right field and
Kyle Lindsay was hit by a pitch, again loading the bases for the Cougars.
Max German took advantage of the situation with an RBI single to right field, giving MU a 7-1 lead after six innings of play.
The Devils picked up two runs on a wild pitch and a ground out to second, but it was too little too late as the Cougars hung on for the 7-3 victory in game one.
FDU-Florham bounced back in the second game on the heels of a stellar outing from their starting pitcher Andrew Hille, who tossed a complete game shutout in the 4-0 Devils win.
Boroch had the lone two hits for the Cougars in the loss while DeCotiis drew two walks.
MU is back in action Sunday afternoon at PNC Field against the University of Scranton. First pitch from Moosic is slated for 2:00 p.m. The Cougars then travel to FDU-Florham, Monday afternoon at 3:30 to conclude a three-game set with the Devils.
