Box Score The Misericordia University baseball team picked up a crucial 9-1 win over Freedom Conference foe, FDU-Florham, Wednesday night at Diamond Sports Complex in Flemington, NJ.
Dan Kliesh was magnificent on the mound, holding the Devils to just one run on six hits while striking out seven and walking just one to earn the win.
Corey Lee was also terrific on the hill, tossing two shutout innings in relief to secure the victory.
Kyle Lindsay,
Mike Comerford and
Al Reda all had two RBI while
Jeremy DeCotiis and
Max German also drove in a run.
Chris Boroch finished with two hits and drew two walks.
The Cougars wasted no time getting on the board as Boroch led off the game with a single and later scored on Lindsay's double down the left field line.
MU added three more in the second when Reda roped a two-RBI single right back up the middle and DeCotiis chipped in with an RBI single of his own in the very next at bat.
FDU got on the board in the home half of the third when Brandan Adams hit an RBI triple to the right field wall, tightening the MU lead to 4-1 after three innings of play.
The Cougars offense exploded for a four-run seventh, putting the game out of reach at 8-1. German brought home the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to center. Comerford followed with a two-RBI double to the right-centerfield gap and later scored from third when
Miles Westrich got caught in a run-down between first and second.
Lindsay bounced a grounder towards second with the bases loaded, allowing Reda to score easily from third, giving MU an insurance run and extending the lead to 9-1 heading to the home half of the eighth.
Lee shut the door on the Devils in the eighth and ninth and the Cougars improved to 15-8-1 and 9-3 in the Freedom Conference. The Cougars host Widener University, Thursday afternoon. First pitch from Tambur Field is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
