Box Score The Misericordia University softball season came to an end with a 5-2 loss to Alvernia in the ECAC South consolation bracket final, Sunday morning at Anderson Field.
Melissa Parker and
Cailey Ware both had two hits and drove in a run to lead the Cougars while
Kristi Seiler and
Sam Hare both had doubles.
Samantha Penk, Aly Shilling, Amanda Turner and Shannon all had two hits to lead the Crusaders while Shilling and Turner both had a double and a homer.
Trailing 5-0 in the seventh, the Cougars scored twice and brought the tying run to the plate, but
Diana Kestenbaum's opposite field fly ball to deep left centerfield was caught for the final out.
Seiler led off the bottom of the seventh with a line drive double to left center and pinch-runner
Jess Armillay moved to third on Hare's double off the centerfield fence.
Parker lined a single to center to get MU on the board and Ware laced an 0-2 pitch to left to make it 5-2.
Alvernia used a two-out rally to take a 2-0 in the top of third. Penk beat out a bunt single and Shilling doubled inside the left field line and Turner brought them both home with a double off the fence in right center.
The Crusaders add some insurance in the fifth thanks to the long ball. Penk reached on a two-base error to lead off the inning and Shillling and Turner followed with back-to-back homers to make it 5-0.
Brittanie Wolfe scattered eight hits to earn the complete game win for Alvernia.
Bailee Schies (14-7) allowed five runs over 4+ innings while taking the loss for the Cougars.
Alissa Steier worked three scoreless innings of relief.
Misericordia finished 25-17 while Alvernia improved to 24-15 and will face McDaniel for the ECAC South title.
