MU Softball Drops Freedom Tourney Opener

Box Score The Misericordia University softball team opened the Freedom Conference championships with a 9-1 loss to Manhattanville, Friday morning at Delaware Valley College.

Sam Hare had a solo homer for the Cougars and Mackenzie Yurko added a hit.

Bailee Schies allowed 11 hits and five runs in 4.1 innings while absorbing the loss.

After the first 11 batters of the game went down in order, Manhattanville got on the board with a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the second.

Kristen Savage singled to center before Emily Frawley beat out an infield single and Brittany Deieso drove in both runners with a double to right center.

The Valiants two more two-out runs in the third on singles by winning pitcher Alyssa Taylor and Savage.

Trailing 5-0 in the fifth, Hare got the Cougars on the board and broke up Taylor's perfect game with a solo homer to right center.

One out later, Melissa Parker was hit by a pitch and Yurko singled to center, but Taylor got the next batter on a pop up to end the threat.

Manhattanville closed out the game with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Misericordia, 23-14, will play FDU-Florham in an elimination game, Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
