Box Score The Misericordia University field hockey team knocked off #16 Lebanon Valley, 3-2, in a shootout, Tuesday night in Annville.
Hannah Harvey and
Suzhaunna Lerch had goals in the first half for the Cougars while
Lindsay Hischak and
Melanie Fry converted their attempts in the shootout with Fry accounting for the game-winner.
Angela Pasquini made 11 saves in goal and stopped four of five attempts in the shootout.
The Cougars took an early lead when
Colby Eldridge crossed a pass behind the Lebanon Valley goalie to the far post where Harvey was there to finish at just 3:56.
Less than three minutes later, Lerch put in a Hischak rebound of the goalie's pads for a 2-0 lead.
Lebanon Valley cut the margin in half five minutes later when Maddie Fox finished a rebound off
Emily Hegner's defensive save.
The Cougars had three consecutive corners in a one-minute span late in the second half, but were unable to generate a shot.
MU added three shots and three corners in a five-minute window, but the remained tied after regulation.
Pasquini kept the Cougars alive with a diving save on a breakaway shot attempt at 76:14.
Lebanon Valley had two shots in the opening minutes of the second overtime, but Pasquini was up to the task and LVC failed to get another shot off the rest of the way.
The Cougars earned four corners and had one shot over the final 13 minutes of OT.
After the first five shooters miss in the shootout, Hischak gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
Brittany Fleisher answered with a goal for the Dutchmen, but Fry put MU back on top and Pasquini forced LVC's final shooter to go wide and preserve the win.
Misericordia, 5-5, will host Manhattanville, Saturday at 2:00.
