Busacca's Last Second Three Leads MU Past DelVal

Joe Busacca has been terrific all season and on Wednesday night at Delaware Valley, with first place in the Freedom Conference on the line, the senior point guard, did it again.

Delaware Valley missed the front end of the one and one with just 14 seconds left and Erik Kerns came up with a huge rebound, allowing Busacca to drill a three-point bucket from the top of the key with just 1.3 seconds left to play.

The Aggies missed on the last second shot to end the game and the Cougars picked up a 70-69 victory over Freedom Conference foe, Delaware Valley.

Busacca led the Cougars with 23 points and four rebounds. Steve Ware followed with 20 points and six boards while Griffin Sponaugle finished with 10 points and Kerns had a team-high 10 rebounds.

MU trailed the majority of the game, but never allowed the game to get away from them.

MU got themselves back into the game with a 10-0 run in the early part of the second half. Ware hit back-to-back jumpers, Busacca followed with a layup and James Hawk used the glass to cut the lead to 45-42 and with 14:58 left.

The Cougars run forced the Aggies to call a timeout. Busacca hit two free throws out of the timeout to make it just a one-point game at 45-44.

Delaware Valley answered with a run of their own over the next four minutes, extending their lead to 55-48 with 10 minutes left.

Ware knocked down one of his two free throw shots and then added a fade away jumper on the next possession to bring MU within two at 65-63 with three minutes left.

Busacca hit a shot from the wing and Kerns hit two free throws to tie the game at 67-67 with 1:30 left.

The Aggies took the 69-67 lead on two free throws with less than a minute left, but Busacca provided the late-game heroics for the Cougars.

The Aggies led by as many as 12 in the first half, but MU erased the deficit in the second half to earn the key conference victory.

The Cougars improved to 14-4 and 6-1 in the Freedom and have now won seven straight games. MU is back in action Saturday afternoon at FDU-Florham.
