The Misericordia University men's soccer team opened MAC Freedom play with a 7-0 win over Delaware Valley, Saturday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Niko Amity had three assists and seven different players scored goals for the Cougars.
Derek Antonini and
Tristan Snyder both had a goal and an assist while
George Stock,
Matt Norcini,
Hunter Kaysa,
Kevin Matlon and
Colin Snyder all had goals.
After Delaware Valley took a point-blank shot in the opening seconds that was stopped by Steiner, the Cougars responded with a pair of goals in less than a minute.
Amity, who generated the first three goals, served a corner into the box and Kaysa headed it home at 2:42.
Less than a minute later, Amity carried the ball down the right flank and served the ball through the box where Norcini collected it, turned and buried a shot past the diving Del Val keeper at 3:22.
The Cougars made it 3-0 at 17:41 when
George Stock converted a penalty kick after Amity was tripped up inside the box.
Trey Zeigler nearly made it 4-0 when he took a through ball down the left side and a slotted a shot on goal, but the Rams keeper made a sliding save at 28:51.
The Cougars did extend the lead to 4-0 when Antonini headed down a corner from
Nick Rogers in the box and Matlon buried a shot at 35:13.
After another diving by the Del Val keeper, the Cougars capitalized on their next opportunity.
Tristan Snyder found his brother
Colin Snyder on the run down the left side and the senior slotted a shot past the charging keeper and into an empty net.
With Del Val playing a man down for the final 29:12, the Cougars added a pair of second-half goals.
Amity served a corner to the right post and Antonini headed it across the goal inside the left post for a 6-0 lead at 61:33.
Tristan Snyder took a feed from
Brandon Dean, turned and blasted a shot from 25 yards out to close out the scoring in the 84
th minute.
P.J. Steiner had three saves to earn the shutout.
Misericordia had a 28-5 advantage in shots and took 17 corners while allowing just three.
The Cougars are 5-3-1 and will host Dickinson in a non-conference match, Wednesday at 7:00.
