Cory Vogeli turned in another terrific start and the Cougar's offense offense had a big fifth inning to lead the #17 Misericordia University baseball team to a 5-1 victory over FDU-Florham in their Freedom Conference opener on Friday afternoon at Tambur Field.
 
Steve Cuccio led the Cougars' offense with three hits, including a long home run to spark the fifth inning rally. Chris Boroch continued to swing a hot bat, going 3-4 with an RBI. D.J. Navoczynski added two hits while Nick Hair and Jeremy DeCotiis each drove in a run in the victory.
 
Vogeli picked up his fourth win of the season, allowing just one run over 5.1 innings of work. The southpaw struck out four while surrendering just one hit.
 
Michael Turton came out of the bullpen to get the final two outs in the sixth while Garrett Pelko earned his second save of the year with three perfect innings of relief.
 
The Devils only run of the game came when Vogeli issued a walk with the bases loaded in the second.
 
The Cougars' offense overcame a sluggish start when Cuccio homered over the left field wall to give MU a 2-1 lead.
 
Boroch kept the rally going with an RBI single to right field and Hair added an RBI double to right-center. Hair scored on an error to cap the five-run fifth.
 
With the win, MU improves to 10-1, while FDU-Florham falls to 1-10 on the season.
 
The Cougars were scheduled to wrap up their three-game series with the Devils on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 at FDU-Florham. However, due to field conditions, the game has been moved to Sunday afternoon.
