Jim Tunison and the Misericordia bullpen have been terrific so far this season and Thursday afternoon was no exception while first year third baseman
Chad Bell provided some timely hitting, making sure the effort didn't go to waste as the Cougars overcame an early deficit with a 4-2 victory over Susquehanna University.
Â
With the bases loaded and the game tied at 2-2, MU head coach
Pete Egbert called on Tunison to get the Cougars out of the jam. The right-hander did just that, earning back-to-back strikeouts and giving MU the momentum late in the game.
Â
Just one inning later, Bell broke the 2-2 tie with a single to right center, scoring Comerford from second who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning.
Al Reda added a huge insurance run with an RBI single down the left field line to ensure the Cougar victory.
Â
Ryan Dorosh fought hard in the no decision, allowing just two runs while striking out four. Tunison picked up his first win of the season, striking out four over 2.2 scoreless innings of one-hit baseball.
Â
The Crusaders picked up one run in the second and another in the third to take an early 2-0 lead.
Â
Bell brought the Cougars within one with a sacrifice foul out down the right field line while the Cougars other run in the fourth came when
Steve Cuccio and
Mike Comerford perfectly executed the delayed steal with runners on first and second.
Â
Reda led the Cougars with two hits and an RBI while
Chris Boroch,
Kyle Lindsay, Comerford, Cuccio and Bell each had a hit for MU in the win.
Â
With the win, MU improves to 5-1 and will close out their seven game trip in Fort Pierce, FL at 9 a.m. Friday morning against Martin Luther.
