Cory Vogeli dominated opposing hitters on the mound, leading the 24th-ranked Misericordia University baseball team to a 3-0 victory at Stevens Tech on Monday afternoon.
Vogeli tossed seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits, striking out seven and walking just two en route to his second win of the season. The lefty has now pitched 13 consecutive scoreless innings to start the season.
Corey Lee came in to slam the door, earning his first save of the season with two scoreless innings and two strikeouts.
Mike Comerford and
D.J. Navoczynski led the Cougars at the plate with two hits and one RBI each while
Chris Boroch added two hits and
Steve Cuccio drove in a run.
The Cougars scored all the runs they would need with two outs in the top of the first.
Kyle Lindsay and Comerford started the two-out rally with back-to-back singles while Navoczynski drove Lindsay in from second with a single to right. Cuccio capped the rally with an RBI single to give MU the 2-0 lead.
MU added an insurance run in the eighth when Comerford roped a two-out double to left-center, giving the Cougars the 3-0 lead and eventually the victory.
With the win, MU has now won four straight games and improves to 7-1 on the season.
The Cougars are slated to return to action Friday afternoon for their Freedom Conference opener at DeSales at 3:30.
