MU Softball Splits at DeSales

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Misericordia University softball team split a doubleheader at DeSales on Wednesday night.
 
The Cougars nearly overcame a big deficit in the first game, but ultimately fell 7-5. MU responded with a 14-9 victory in the nightcap.
 
Melissa Parker led the Cougars with a three-run home run and five total RBI in the game two victory. Sam Hare added a homer of her own and three RBI. Melanie Quintanilla went 4-4 with an RBI while Lori Brennan and Andi Veneziale each drove in two runs. Kristi Seiler added two hits and an RBI in the victory.
 
Jordan Hoffman worked 2.2 innings of relief to earn her first career win.
 
Whitney Ellenberg led the Cougars in the first game with three hits and one RBI while Meg Hardy, Lori Brennan and Cailey Ware drove in one run each.
 
Hoffman tossed three innings of scoreless relief for MU in the game one loss.
 
The Cougars got out to a hot start in the second game, taking a 7-0 lead after their first two at bats.
 
DeSales came roaring back with five runs of their own, cutting the MU lead to just 7-5 after three innings of play.
 
Quintanilla extended the Cougars' lead to 8-5 with an RBI single in the fifth.
 
DeSales again answered, this time tying the game at 8-8 heading into the sixth inning.
 
The tie didn't last long as Parker's home run gave MU an 11-8 lead after six. Hare added a three-run homer in the seventh to put the game out of reach at 14-8.
 
DeSales added a run in the seventh, but it was too little, too late, and MU picked up the 14-9 victory to earn the split.
 
In the first game, MU scored all of their runs in the sixth inning. Hardy, Brennan, Ware and Ellenberg each drove in a run in the inning.
 
With the split, MU is now 8-8 and 3-1 in the Freedom Conference, while DeSales is now 3-7 and 1-1 in the conference.
 
The Cougars are back in action Thursday afternoon for a doubleheader against King's College, beginning at 3:00 at Anderson Field.
