Baseball Drops 7-6 Heartbreaker

The Misericordia University baseball team dropped a 7-6 heartbreaker on the road at Delaware Valley on Monday afternoon.

The Cougars jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but the Aggies never went away, eventually capturing a 7-6 victory in walk-off fashion.

Chris Boroch led the MU offense with two hits and two RBI while Jeremy DeCotiis and Connor Rittenhouse drove in one run each in the loss.

Tim Burek got the start on the mound, allowing three earned runs while striking out eight and walking just one over six innings of work. Jim Tunison gave up two unearned runs and struck out two in three innings of relief.

DeCotiis gave MU a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a ground ball to the right side, allowing Boroch to score from third.

Boroch then extended the Cougars' lead to 2-0 with an RBI single to centerfield while Comerford scored on a wild pitch in the third to make it a 3-0 ballgame in favor of the Cougars.

Delaware Valley woke up in the third, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third, one in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead into the sixth.

DeCotiis tied the game at 5-5 with a double to the left-centerfield gap in the top of the sixth.

However, the Aggies added two more in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead.

Rittenhouse roped a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Hair to trot in from third and tie the game at 6-6 in the top of the seventh.

Neither team plated a run, until the Aggies scored on a walk-off single to left field to earn the 7-6 victory.

With the loss, MU falls to 17-6 overall and 7-3 in the Freedom Conference. The Aggies improve to 7-12 and 1-7 in the conference.

The Cougars return to action Thursday afternoon against the University of Scranton at PNC Field in Moosic, PA. First pitch is slated for 4:00.
