The Misericordia University baseball team completed a sweep of its season series with Eastern with a of pair nail-biting victories over the Eagles, Saturday.
MU rallied for an 8-7 win in the opener and held of an Eastern rally to take the nightcap, 4-3.
Chris Boroch had three hits and two RBI in the opener and
Mike Comerford had a three-run double while
Steve Cuccio had two hits and scored two runs.
Cory Vogeli struck out six over six innings to pick up the win and
Jim Tunison notched his second save.
In the nightcap, the Cougars used a three-run first and
Kyle Lindsay scored twice.
Garrett Pelko went the distance to earn the win.
Trailing 5-1 in the opener, the Cougars put together a three-run rally in the top of the fifth.
Al Reda reached on an error and moved to second on Boroch's single.Â
Kyle Lindsay walked to load the bases and Comerford cleared the bases with a two-out double.
The Cougars added two more runs with more two-out damage in the sixth. Eshleman reached on a two-out error and pinch-runner
Chad Bell moved to second when
Alec Iurato drew a pinch-hit walk.
Boroch doubled down the left field line to chase them both home.
MU went up 8-5 in the seventh. Comerford drew a lead-off walk and after a sacrifice bunt, Cuccio was hit by a pitch. Comerford scored on
Connor Rittenhouse's bunt and Bell followed with an RBI-single to center.
Tunison got two quick outs in the bottom of the seventh before the Eagles put together a two-run rally to pull within a run.
The Cougars took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first of game two before an out was recorded. Boroch drew a walk and moved to second on a single by
Jeremy DeCotiis. Lindsay singled and moved to second on an outfield misplay while Boroch and DeCotiis both scored.
Comerford made it 3-0 with a single to right.
Misericordia added what turned out be a critical insurance run in the third. Lindsay and Comerford drew back-to-back one-out walks and Cuccio singled up the middle with two down to make it 4-0.
Pelko cruised through the first six innings with a one-hitter before running into trouble in the seventh.
The Eagles plated three runs on four hits before Pelko induced a pair of grounders for the final two outs.
Misericordia improved to 21-6 overall and 10-3 in the Freedom. The Cougars will visit Wilkes, Monday.
