The Misericordia University baseball team picked up a thrilling 8-7 extra-inning victory at Freedom Conference foe, Wilkes University, Tuesday afternoon at Artillery Park.

Alec Iurato's RBI single in the top of the tenth proved to be the difference for the Cougars in their extra inning win.

Mike Comerford led the MU offense with three hits and three RBI while
D.J. Navoczynski,
Nick Hair,
Brian Eshleman and Iurato drove in one run each in the win.

Jake Kurtz picked up the victory on the mound, allowing one run in 2.1 innings of relief.
Tim Burek got the start, allowing two earned runs on five hits.
Kyle Rogalski tossed five innings of relief, allowing just one earned run and three hits while striking out three.

Wilkes jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on a James Brown single up the middle in the bottom of the first.

Navoczynski responded for the Cougars with a home run way over the left field wall, tying the game at 1-1 in the top of the second.

Wilkes again captured the lead with three runs in the second, taking a 4-1 lead.

The Cougars got one back in the third when
Kyle Lindsay scored on a Comerford grounder to the right side, making it a 4-3 game heading into the home half of the third.

MU's offense caught fire with two runs in the third and two more in the fifth. Hair and Eshleman drew bases loaded walks, plating the two runs in the third. Comerford then roped a two-run single to extend the Cougars' lead to 7-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Josh Slocum added solo homers in the sixth and eighth innings while Jarret Clymer added a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings.

Iurato then gave MU the lead and eventually the win with an RBI single to left-center in the top of the tenth.
Â
Kurtz tossed a scoreless home half of the tenth to preserve the 8-7 victory over the Colonels.

With the win, MU improves to 22-6 overall and 11-3 in the Freedom Conference. Wilkes falls to 16-15 overall and 10-8 in the conference.

The Cougars return to action Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 against King's College at Tambur Field.
