MU Stays Hot with Sweep over King's

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Misericordia University baseball team continued to swing a hot bat, sweeping a doubleheader with King's College on Thursday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
 
The Cougars picked up an 8-4 victory in the opener and a dominating, 10-1, victory in the nightcap.
 
D.J. Navoczynski led the Cougars with two hits and three RBI in the first game while Chris Boroch and Kyle Lindsay added two hits and two RBI each. Steve Cuccio added an RBI in the opener.
 
Garrett Pelko earned his first win of the season with 3.1 innings of perfect relief in the first game. He stuck out seven of the ten batters he faced. Corey Lee was credited with a no decision, striking out three while allowing four runs on six hits over 3.2 innings.
 
Steve Cuccio led the Cougars offense in their 10-1 victory in the nightcap with four RBI while Navoczynski drove in two runs. Kyle Lindsay, Boroch and Connor Rittenhouse all drove in one run each in the win.
 
Michael Turton picked up his second win of the season, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out two over five innings of work. Mike Bernet and Jim Tunison tossed one scoreless inning each to preserve the sweep.
 
The Cougar's did the majority of their damage in the first game in the third inning. Boroch broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single up the middle while Navoczynski cleared the bases later in the inning with a double off the left-centerfield wall.
 
Boroch added an RBI double to left while Lindsay singled him in later in the inning to give MU a 6-0 lead heading into the home half of the fourth.
 
King's threated with four runs to come within 6-4. However, Navoczynski and Cuccio drove in one run each to put the game out of reach in the seventh.
 
In the nightcap, MU scored early and often. The Cougars picked up three runs in the top of the first and added five more in the second to put the game out of reach.
 
With the win, MU now improves to 13-1 overall and 3-0 in the Freedom Conference. With the loss, King's falls to 2-12 and 0-6 in the conference.
 
The Cougars return to action Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader against DeSales University beginning at 1:00 at Tambur Field.
