Cougars Dominate Monarchs, 15-2

The Misericordia University baseball team scored early and often, cruising to a 15-2 victory over Freedom Conference foe, King's College, on Thursday afternoon at Tambur Field.

Kyle Lindsay led the relentless MU offense with two hits and five RBI while Connor Rittenhouse drove in two runs and Mike Comerford finished with three hits and one RBI. Chris Boroch, Evan Bush, D.J. Navoczynski, Steve Cuccio and Nick Hair drove in one run each in the victory.

Michael Turton dominated the Monarchs on the mound, tossing seven shutout innings, allowing just six hits while striking out one en route to the victory.

Elliot Forde tossed a scoreless ninth to preserve the 15-2 victory for the Cougars.

MU jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Monarch's fielding blunder in the first.

The Cougars then exploded for four runs in the bottom of the second. Rittenhouse started the rally with an RBI single up the middle. Lindsay added a sacrifice fly and Comerford roped a double over the left fielder's head, giving MU a 5-0 lead after two.

Navoczynski crushed a solo shot over the left field wall and Rittenhouse added a sacrifice fly to extend the Cougars' lead to 7-0 after five.

MU added three more in the sixth on RBI doubles off the bat of Lindsay and Cuccio while Hair added an RBI single, making it a 10-0 ballgame after six.

The Cougars added another run on a King's fielding miscue and Lindsay added a sacrifice fly to extend the MU lead to 12-0 after seven.

Joe Zito put King's on the board with a two-run triple to the centerfield wall in the eighth.

Lindsay then capped the Cougars' scoring with an RBI single in the home half of the eighth and Forde shut the door on the Monarch's in the top of the ninth to complete the 15-2 victory.

With the victory MU improves to 23-6 overall and 12-3 in the Freedom Conference. The Monarchs fall to 6-19 overall and 1-13 in the conference.

The Cougars return to action Friday afternoon at 3:30 at FDU-Florham.
