The Misericordia University baseball team split a doubleheader with Freedom Conference rival, Wilkes University, Monday afternoon at Tambur Field.

The Cougars edged the Colonels 6-5 in the first game and dropped a tough, 7-3, decision in the finale.

Pete Egbert picked up his 300
th career win with the victory in game one.

D.J. Navoczynski led the Cougars to victory in the first game with three RBI while
Mike Comerford drove in two runs and
Brian Eshleman added an RBI in the win.

Ryan Dorosh tossed a complete game, allowing just two earned runs while striking out eight over seven innings to earn his third win of the season on the mound.

Navoczynski led MU with three hits and one RBI in game two while
Al Reda and
Alec Iurato brought home one run each with perfect bunts in the second game.

Garrett Pelko suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs in six plus innings. The left-hander struck out one to fall to 1-1 on the season.

In the first game, Comerford gave MU the early 2-0 lead with a two-run double to right-center.

Wilkes tied it up in the second, but Navoczynski gave MU a 3-2 advantage with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

The Colonels again answered, tying the game at 3-3 on a Dan Pisanchyn RBI single in the fifth.

Navoczynski then picked up his most important hit of the day, driving a two-RBI double over the left fielder's head. Eshleman then dropped down a bunt, scoring Navoczynski from third, making it a 6-3 Cougars' advantage after six innings of play.

Wilkes added two runs in the seventh, but Dorosh and the Cougars escaped with the 6-5 victory in the opener.

MU held a 1-0 advantage for the majority of the second game. However, Wilkes tied it up in the sixth.

Iurato and Reda then added their perfect bunts, bringing home two runs and giving MU a 3-1 lead after six.

Wilkes exploded for six runs in the seventh to take a 7-3 lead and eventually the win in the nightcap.

With the loss, MU is now 15-3 overall and 5-2 in the conference. Wilkes is now 10-9 overall and 7-1 in the conference.

The Cougars return to action Wednesday afternoon at Widener.
