Cougars Drop Freedom Opener to Eastern

The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team dropped its Freedom Conference opener to Eastern, 14-4, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.

Pat Kellish, Andrew Reynolds, Kyle Reese and Brandon Winslow scored for MU.

Patrick Johnson made 13 saves in goal.  Lane Kocovsky led the Cougars with five groundballs and two caused turnovers while Kellish, Bodnar, Reynolds and Chris Fleming all had four groundballs.

Johnson made a point-blank three minutes into the game and the score remained 0-0 until Eastern broke through with 8:02 to play in the first quarter.

After Eastern built a 4-0 lead late in the period, Reynolds nearly got MU on the board when he won the face-off and caromed a shot off the post.

Winslow gathered a groundball and bounced a shot in from the right wing to make it 4-1 early in the second period.

Following two Eastern goals, Kellish stuffed a shot in from the left post after a nice feed from Lane Kocovsky to make it 6-2 with 9:21 to go before halftime.

Reese charged down the right side of the net to pull within 7-3 to open the third quarter.

Reynolds followed with a shot off the crossbar on an extra-man opportunity.  Misericordia had seven shots deflect off the post or crossbar in the contest.

The Eagles tallied four straight goals to go ahead 11-3 at the end of three periods.

Reynolds scored from the top of the circle to open the fourth period, but Eastern answered with three goals in a three-minute span to clinch the win.

The Cougars (5-5, 0-1) will visit Delaware Valley University, Saturday.
