The sixth-seeded Misericordia University baseball team defeated top-seeded Kean 6-2 in an elimination game of the 2015 NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Baseball Regional on Friday afternoon at Santander Stadium in York, PA.

With the victory, MU advances to play Johns Hopkins Friday night at 7:45. The Cougars defeated the Blue Jays 6-4 in their opening game on Wednesday night.

Chris Boroch led the MU offense with three hits and an RBI while
Kyle Lindsay had two hits and one RBI.
Alec Iurato and
D.J. Navoczynski drove in one run each in the victory.

Jake Kurtz was terrific on the mound, picking up his fourth win of the season. The right-hander went 5.2 innings, allowing two runs while striking out five.
Corey Lee earned the save with 3.1 innings of scoreless relief. He struck out two and allowed just one hit.

MU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Boroch drew a leadoff walk. DeCotiis then followed with a bunt that came to rest on the chalk of the third base line, giving the Cougars runners on first and second with nobody out.

Lindsay then roped an RBI single to center. Iurato followed with a perfect bunt on the third base side, allowing DeCotiis to score from third and setting up runners on second and third with no outs in the inning.

Kean then worked their way out of the inning after throwing Lindsay out at the plate on a ground ball to the first baseman and then getting back-to-back strikeouts to strand runners on first and second for the Cougars.

Navoczynski extended MU's lead to 3-0 with an RBI single right back up the middle in the top of the third. Lindsay started the inning with a single to center and then moved over to second on Iurato's sacrifice bunt before scoring Navoczynski's chopper up the middle.

Kean threatened with three straight two-out singles in the bottom of the fourth. However, Naoczynski ended the threat with a perfect one-hopper to the plate from right field ahead of the runner trying to score from second on the third single of the inning. The play at the plate preserved MU's 3-0 lead after four innings of play.

Kean picked up two runs in the home half of the sixth, tightening MU's lead to 3-2 on two RBI singles. Lee came in to relieve Kurtz with two outs and a runner on first and got out of the jam with a fly out to right field.

MU added another run in the top of the seventh, extending its lead to 4-2 when
Al Reda scored on a double play ball off the bat of Lindsay.

The Cougars picked up two huge insurance runs in the top of the eighth. Reda reached on an error, allowing
Ben Ciraolo to score from third and Boroch then roped an RBI single up the middle.

Lee then shut the door on Kean, securing MU's 6-2 victory.
