Manhattanville broke open a close game late in the second half on the way to an 87-77 win over Misericordia in MAC Freedom men's basketball action, Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Center.
Jason Kenny scored a team-high 20 points for the Cougars while
Griffin Sponaugle had 17 points seven assists and six rebounds and
Erik Kerns added 16 points.
James Hawk gave the Cougars a 41-40 lead off a drive-and-dish from Sponaugle early in the second half, but Manhattanville rallied to take 57-48 lead with 13:58 to go.
Kerns drilled a deep three-pointer from the top of the key to get MU within 65-59 with 10:32 to play, but Manhattanville went on a 17-0 run over the three minutes to take an 81-59 lead.
Stone McCreary hit a pair of three-pointers as the Cougars clawed back within nine points, 86-77, late in the game.
Misericordia led throughout most of the first half and took a 32-20 on a deep three-pointer from the right wing by Kenny with less than five minutes left in the half.
Jamie Egan's driving layup gave the Cougars a 17-14 lead and Sponaugle fed Kerns for three straight baskets, including a baseline jumper to beat the shot clock, to put MU ahead 23-18.
Kenny sandwiched four points around a drive by Kerns to make it 29-18 before drilling his deep three-pointer for a 12-point lead.
Manhattanville battled back and trailed just 37-36 at intermission.
