The Misericordia University men's basketball team fell at 13
th-ranked Franklin & Marshall, 81-76, Saturday.
Jason Kenny led the Cougars with 29 points while
Griffin Sponaugle added 16 and
Tyler McGarry had 13.
Erik Kerns had eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Down 58-41 early in the second half, the Cougars battled back and eventually pulled with three points in the final minute.
Kenny had a layup and two free throws to cut the deficit to 63-58 with 5:47 to go.
The teams went back-and-forth over the next five minutes before Sponaugle made two free throws and a three-pointer to get within 79-74 with less than a minute remaining.
McGarry converted a layup with 13 seconds left, but F & M added a pair of free throws for the final margin.
Sponaugle hit a three-pointer to keep MU within 30-27 with 5:48 left in the first half, but the Diplomats closed the half on a 16-7 run to take a 46-34 halftime lead.
MU, 6-6, will visit Mansfield, Saturday.
