The first-place Delaware Valley men's basketball team rallied for a 74-70 win at Misericordia, Wednesday night in the Anderson Center.
Griffin Sponaugle's three-pointer gave the Cougars a 68-67 lead with 1:49 to play, but the Aggies closed the game on a 7-2 run.
Sponaugle led MU with 17 points while
Alec Rodway,
Jason Kenny and
Erik Kerns all added 11 points. Kerns had a game-high 13 rebounds while Rodway had eight rebounds and five assists.
Misericordia led 52-49 midway through the second half before the Aggies scored seven straight points to take a 56-52 lead with 10:16 remaining.
After Del Val took its biggest lead of the night, 60-54, with 9:31 to go, Rodway buried a pull-up three-pointer.
Kerns made two free throws to cap a 5-0 run to get MU within 63-62 with 3:22 to play.
Following a Del Val basket, Kerns drilled a deep three-pointer to tie it, 65-65, with 2:31 left.
The Cougars led nearly the entire first 20 minutes and took a 34-33 halftime lead on Kerns layup.
After Del Val scored six straight points to take a 6-4 lead, the Cougars answered with an 8-0 run. Kenny scored on a back-door cut to start the spurt and Rodway ended with a fast break layup for a 12-6 lead with 13:20 to go in the first half.
Kenny drilled a deep three-pointer from the right wing to give MU a 15-8 lead.
After a Del Val three-pointer cut MU's lead to 20-18,
D.J. Marlow,
Darren Davy and Kerns scored three straight buckets to stretch the lead to 26-18 with 7:03 remaining.
The Aggies eventually went ahead 33-32 before Kenny found Kerns underneath to close the first half scoring.
Misericordia, 9-9 (3-4), will host FDU-Florham, Saturday at 3:00.
