Box Score Eastern scored the only goal of the game on a penalty kick early in the second half to defeat Misericordia University, 1-0, in men's soccer action Tuesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Misericordia held a commanding 17-5 advantage in shots while limiting the Eagles to just one shot on goal.
The Cougars also had an 11-4 edge in corners.
MU had the game's first threat in the second minute when
Tristan Wright raced down the right side and served a ball across the box, but
Vincenzo Diliberti was unable to connect on the far post.
George Stock played a ball over top on a re-start from midfield, but
Chris Edkins' header sailed over the bar in the sixth minute.
The Cougars continued to apply pressure and
Ethan Aigeldinger ripped a shot from 25 yards that found EU keeper Quentin Keibler in the 25
th minute.
Anthony Ippolito striped an Eastern defender at the top of the box and fired a shot from the top right corner, but Keibler came off his line to win the ball in the air.
Russell Hines entered the game in the 31
st minute and instantly created an opportunity with a serve from the right edge of the box, but Keibler was able to beat a streaking
Anthony Ippolito to the ball.
Eastern's best chance of the first half came whenVanji Moise ripped a shot over the bar from 30 yards out in the 34
th minute.
Jared Houser gave the Cougars another chance with a shot from the left flank with less than a minute remaining in the first half, but Keibler made a leaping save.
MU's most dangerous opportunity of the second half came in the 67
th minute when
Devin Marriott got a head on a corner from
Levi Roberts, but Keibler made a diving stop to his left.
MU, 7-5-1, will visit Wilkes, Saturday at 5:00.
