The Misericordia University women's volleyball team swept Wilkes, 3-0 (25-13, 27-25, 25-15), Wednesday evening at the Anderson Center.

Tara Welliver led the Cougars with 14 kills, Michelle Sehested had 12 kills and three aces while Nicole Tagerty had 32 assists. Paige Shaughnessy led the team in digs with 10.

Welliver and Sehested combined for nine kills to help MU capture the first set.

The second set was a back and forth affair in which the teams were never separated by more than two points. The Cougars came out of a timeout down 24-23 and went on a 4-1 run to close out the second set. Welliver notched three kills while Shaughnessy had one.

The third set began tight, with the teams trading points on their way to being tied at 8-8 before MU reeled off three straight points. Wilkes took a timeout to try to
kill the Cougar's momentum, but two more Sehested kills and an error by the Colonels left MU up 14-8. The teams went back and forth to get to 11-16 before MU went on another run to make the score 21-11.

Wilkes responded with a 4-1 run to make it 15-22.

Wilkes smashed a serve in that looked like it would eventually fall for an ace, but a great play by Kaitlin Wheeler kept the play alive. The point ended in a

Shaughnessy kill as the Cougars scored the final three points to earn the sweep.

Misericordia will wrap-up their season by hosting a tri-match with Kean and Wells, Saturday starting at 11:00.
