Lebanon Valley scored two second half touchdowns to break open a close game to defeat Misericordia University, 28-13, Saturday afternoon.
Jeff Krisiak was 26-41 for 213 yards and two touchdowns and
Josh Dieter and
Sam Gillison both had scoring receptions for the Cougars.
Colton Pyne tied a school record with 11 receptions for 99 yards and Gillison had six catches for 49 yards.
Jared Henn led the MU defense with seven tackles, including six solo.
The Dutchmen scored on their first two possessions to take a 14-0 lead late in the first quarter.
Misericordia took over on downs in their own territory early in the second quarter and put together a 65-yard scoring drive.
After misfiring on third-and-two, the Cougars took advantage of a roughing the kicker penalty for a first down at their own 43 yard line.
Ryan Kurtz picked up 15 yards on three carries for a first down at the Leb Val 41. After an off sides penalty, Kurtz gained five yards for another first down at the 31.
Following a short gain by Kurtz, Krisiak went eight yards for a first down at the 21.
Kurtz gained seven yards on second down and Krisiak connected with Dieter for a 14-yard touchdown on the next play to get within 14-7 midway through the second period.
Moses Ulysse blocked a Dutchmen field goal attempt on the next series and the Cougars went into halftime, down 14-7.
Klayton Kelly returned the second half kickoff 24 yards to the 32 yard line and the Cougars appeared headed for a tying score.
Krisiak hit
Alec Rhoads for an 11-yard gain and first down at the 44 and found Gillison for six yards to midfield.
Pyne had a 19-yard catch for a first down at the Leb Val 24, but the drive stalled there and the Dutchmen took over on downs.
Lebanon Valley responded with a 69-yard scoring drive to take a 21-7 lead midway through the third quarter.
Tom Anderson blocked a Leb Val punt to give the Cougars the ball at the Dutchmen 47 yard line with 2:42 to go in the third quarter.
Pyne opened the drive with a 10-yard reception to the 37 yard line. After a sack, Krisiak rushed for 12 yards and hit Pyne again to convert a fourth-and-seven for a first down at the 24.
The Dutchmen ended the threat with an interception at their own 17 and Brendon Irving went 79 yards for a score and a 28-7 lead with 12:37 to play.
Starting on their own 10 yard line, Krisiak completed eight passes to again move the Cougars deep into Leb Val territory, but the Dutchmen came up with another interception at their own 19.
MU forced a punt and took over at their own 28 with 4:30 remaining. Pyne and
Mark McMaster both had 13-yard receptions as the Cougars moved downfield and Gillison capped a 72-yard drive with a 20-yard touchdown grab with 3:16 to go.
The Cougars recovered the on-sides kick, but Lebanon Valley forced a fumble on the third play of the drive and took possession and ran out the clock.
