Jason Kenny scored a career-high 37 points as the Misericordia University men's basketball team opened the season with a 120-116 win at #25 Susquehanna in double-overtime, Tuesday.
Tre Fields had 26 points and six assists in his Misericordia debut and
Tony Harding added 23 points and 10 rebounds in his first collegiate game.
Griffin Sponaugle scored all 11 of his points in OT and added seven assists while
James Hawk had eight points and 10 rebounds.Â
Noah Rivera added eight points and nine rebounds.
Steven Weidlich had 49 points in a losing effort for Susquehanna.
Harding opened his collegiate career with a three-pointer on the game's initial possession and the Cougars eventually built a 19-point lead, 35-16, midway through the first half.
Susquehanna rallied to pull even early in the second half, 51-51, but a pair of three-pointers by Harding put MU back in front, 59-51.
The Cougars maintained a double-digit lead for much of the second half, but the River Hawks charged back to take their first lead, 90-89, with 2:56 remaining.
MU made four three throws over the final two minutes to end regulation tied, 93-93.
The teams traded baskets throughout the first OT and Sponaugle kept MU alive with two free throws with 10 seconds remaining to force a second extra session.
Misericordia never trailed in the second OT as Sponaugle scored seven points, including two free throws with five seconds left, to ice it.
MU will face Clarks Summit University in the opening round of the 25
th Annual McCarthy Tire Laurel Line, Friday at 8:00.
