Jaclyn Hajec had 21 points to lead four players in double figures as the Misericordia University women's basketball team improved to 2-0 with a 79-69 win at Gwynedd-Mercy, Friday.
The Cougars will face TCNJ in the championship game of the Gwynedd-Mercy Tip-Off Tournament, Saturday at 2:00.
Shannon Croasdale added 14 points and six assists and
Japriya Carroll had 11 points.
Justine Seely had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and added five steals.Â
Rachel Carmody added seven points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Down 37-31 early in the third quarter, the Cougars went on a 20-4 run to take a 51-41 lead and never trailed again.
Hajec put MU in front with a layup and Carmody made it 46-41 with a three-pointer with 4:16 left in the third period. A Croasdale jumper made it 48-41 and Hajec drilled a three-pointer to stretch the lead to 10.
The Griffins cut the deficit to 53-51 in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, but MU responded with a 17-7 spurt to go up, 70-58, with 3:41 to play.
Hajec had two three-pointers during the run and Croasdale scored back-to-back buckets to end it.
Hajec had five of MU's 13 three-pointers as the Cougars shot 43.3% from beyond the arc.
