Rachel Carmody had 19 points and
Paige Wampole and
Justine Seely both had double-doubles as the Misericordia University women's basketball team defeated City College of New York, 70-47, Sunday afternoon in the Anderson Center.
Seely had 14 points and 13 rebounds and Wampole added 13 points and 16 rebounds as the Cougars grabbed 72 rebounds, including 33 on the offensive end.
Leanne Forsyth had eight rebounds and four assists and
Shannon Croasdale added seven rebounds and three assists.
Carmody drained a three-pointer from the left corner to give the Cougars a 12-11 lead late in the first quarter and they never trailed again.
Carmody made it 14-11 on a backdoor cut and a pass from Seely and Seely converted a three-point play for a 17-13 lead.
Carmody closed the first quarter with a putback and a 21-16 MU lead.
The Cougars used a 19-7 second quarter to put the game away.
Liz Waleski drained a three-pointer from the left corner and Carmody followed with a short turnaround jumper for a 27-18 lead.
Waleski found Seely underneath and
Alexa Plitt drilled a deep three-pointer from the left wing for a 38-23 lead with less than a minute remaining.
Seely closed the first half with a steal and a coast-to-coast layup for a 40-23 halftime lead.
Wampole had back-to-back putbacks to give the Cougars their biggest lead of the day, 48-24, midway through the third period and CCNY never got closer than 17 points the rest of the way.
Misericordia is 5-3 and will travel to Division I Binghamton, Saturday.
